In the last 20 years, treatment principles and protocols for the completely edentulous patient have tremendously evolved in a quest to provide satisfactory and predictable clinical outcomes. Restorative options range from the conventional complete denture to the more sophisticated implant-supported fixed complete dental prosthesis, and clinicians are often faced with a dilemma regarding the optimal treatment plan for their patient. Upon completion of this webinar, participants should be able to: – Discuss and compare the available options for restoring the edentulous patient, using fixed or removable prostheses – Identify factors that determine the selection of the most appropriate prosthesis for each patient – Describe the immediate loading protocol for the edentulous mandible

Dr. Despoina Bompolaki

Dr. Despoina Bompolaki is an Assistant Professor of Prosthodontics at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon USA. She received her DDS from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2009. In 2014 she received her Certificate in Prosthodontics and Master’s in Oral Biology from Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. Bompolaki is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics. She is the chair of the National Prosthodontic Resident Examination Committee of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), a member of the Research Submission Committee of the Academy of Osseointegration and a member of the Osseointegration Foundation Research Grant Committee. Her Master’s thesis was awarded with the second place at the Stanley D. Tylman research competition of the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics. She recently received a grant from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry Foundation for her ongoing research on implant restoration outcomes. She is a member of the American College of Prosthodontists, the Academy of Osseointegration, the European Prosthodontic Association and the Greek Prosthodontic Society. She maintains a faculty dental practice in OHSU focused in fixed, implant and removable prosthodontics.
