Abstract:
Resin composites (RC) and glass-ionomers (GI) are currently the materials of choice for luting and cementation of restorative materials to tooth or implant abutments. Currently, several developments have be introduced in both these material categories. Two-paste reinforced resin-modified GI with simplified treatment and improved handling characteristics have been advocated, apart from metal/porcelain fused to metal restorations, to cementation of high strength ceramic (polycrystalline, lithium disilicate) crowns and fixed partial dentures. Adhesive RC luting agents from the original multicomponent systems have been modified to more simplified versions, several transformed to self-adhesive luting agents, whereas the latest development was the introduction of “touch-cure” primers/adhesives to enhance bonding. The aim of this presentation is to review the latest developments in the field and to assess their contribution to the performance of these materials.
