Abstract:
Creating the illusion of a natural tooth is the major objective for any kind of restorative treatment. In particular the esthetic zone in the maxilla represents high demands on the team of patient, dentist and dental laboratory technician. Treatment planning and anticipating possible pitfalls is the most important task. Modern materials help to fulfill the expectations of the patient and restorative team. However, there are different approaches needed for the different indications. Based on the amount of lost tooth structure different ceramic materials are used: for single upper anterior veneers and crowns, with the possibility to bond them adhesively traditional veneering porcelains are fabricated in refractory die technique. Multiple restorations and all other single crowns are fabricated from lithium disilicate as well as three-unit anterior fixed dental prostheses (FDPs). Posterior FDPs are manufactured from monolithic zirconia or zirconia substructures with a lithium disilicate CAD/CAM-fabricated veneering. Long-term success on the other hand is highly dependent on the prosthetic concept, the used materials and the maintenance program. The lecture will present the clinical concept of the Team Charité, discuss clinical advantages and challenges and give a clear guideline to improve the performance of tooth-coloured restorations in every-day practice.
