ABSTRACT
Mechanical instrumentation has been a hot topic in endodontics. Reciprocation motion can be used to prepare root canal systems with stainless steel or NiTi files. Horizontal rotational and vertical movements have been used for decades. Within years of research different movements with symmetrical or asymmetrical angles have been suggested to help us simplify mechanical preparations. Nowadays there are ‘’open’’ motors with multiple settings that can be adjusted according to the specific case.
In this webinar we will discuss motions and angles used in reciprocation and we will also see how this can be a tool for every dentist performing root canal treatments. We will review the properties, abilities of reciprocation files, how they preserve the root canal anatomy, the time needed for the treatment and the effectiveness, possible microcracks, the bacterial reduction as well as the extrusion of debris and removal of root canal filling materials.
