Dr. Costa qualified BDS, cum laude, as dentist in 1984 receiving numerous Awards including the Gold Medal of the Dental Association of South Africa. In 1990, he completed his 4 year postgraduate Maxillo-Facial & Oral Surgery Training at Wits University. In 1998, he became an ICOI Diplomate.
