Peri-implantitis and its microbiology

Peri-implantitis is a contemporary health issue that has emerged alongside the innovation of dental implants. While it is often paralleled to periodontitis, obvious clinical and biological differences are distinguishable between the two conditions. This seminar will focus on the microbiology of peri-implantitis, with emphasis on “omics” technologies and how these help us understand the detailed composition and function of the microbiome in this disease. Associations between clinical and microbiological features will be considered, and comparisons between peri-implantitis and periodontitis will be drawn, in pursuit of diagnostic implications.
