Splinting of Traumatised Teeth in the Primary and Permanent Dentition. When, How and for How Long?

Abstract
Dental injuries are among the most common emergency situation we encounter in our daily clinical practice. About 25% of all school children have experienced at least one dental injury, whilst 33% of adults have also suffered a dental injury at some point in their lives, with the majority of injuries occurring before the age of 19. Proper emergency management of dental injuries is crucial for the long-term preservation of teeth in the dental arch and the reduction of long-term post-traumatic complications. Splinting is applied in cases of periodontal tissues and bone injury that can result in displacement of the tooth from its original position in the socket. In this webinar, we will discuss clinical indications of splinting after traumatic dental injuries in both primary and permanent dentition. We will address the following questions: How long after the injury the teeth can be splinted, what type of splinting material and for how long should be used? In addition we will review what are the most contemporary methods and protocols for proper splinting in each trauma scenario according to the latest international guidelines.
